Alphonse Mucha by Mary di Giamberardino

Alphonse Mucha on display at Complesso del Vittoriano – ala Brasini, from April 15 to September 11, 2016.

Czech artist, educated in his native country as well as in France and the US, he was one of the leaders of Art Nouveau, in a historical moment when art blent with advertising. The production of Mucha includes many works, ranging from playbills (famous the ones dedicated to the great actress of the time), book covers, decorative panels and illustrations for magazines.

In all his images we can find some peculiarities, such as the sophistication and elegance of forms. Very often female figures in neoclassical dresses, surrounded by floral motifs and geometric frames, evoking a world of symbolic and dreamlike images.

The exhibition is curated by Tomoko Sato and organized by Arthemisia – In addition to the posters, also decorative objects and sculptures.
